Huu-ay-aht First Nations

Huu-ay-aht First Nations is on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, and includes the town of Bamfield. It was in 2024 they completed a road upgrade to Bamfield, the start of the West Coast Trail. Camp at Pachena Bay Campground for some premier beach camping or book a hotel room in Bamfield - either works as your basecamp for some top coastal exploring. Watch for the return of Kiixin Tours in 2025, to discover an ancient village site of the Huu-ay-aht peoples.

Getting here  making your way to Pachena Bay and Bamfield just got a whole lot smoother in 2024, considering the road is now chip sealed out of Port Alberni, making for a smooth 1h 30min drive.

Kiixin Tours Returning in 2025, book in for a Kiixin Tour that will take you on a four hour transformative experience, hiking along well produced trail with boardwalk down to Kiixin Beach. This is the site of an ancient Huu-ay-aht First Nations village site, home to the actual beams of the structures that were once there. 

Your guide is a Huu-ay-aht knowledge keeper who will walk you through the history of the Nation and the village, through words and song. This National Historic Site is not to be missed on your #indigenouscoastbc road trip. 

Pachena Bay Campground featuring 129 full service or basic campsites, set on one of the top beaches. The sand, the water, the location is tops. See it to believe it. New showers and washrooms on site and home to the annual Pachena Bay Music Festival. Pachena Bay is located about 10 minutes drive from the town of Bamfield, and is at the start (or end) of the West Coast Trail. 

Hacas Inn This pet friendly 31 room motel is found in central Bamfield, right next to the general store (which has a take out joint) and the Bamfield water taxi connecting to the west side of town. Bamfield is broken into east and west. The Hacas Inn is an affordable option for those who don't want to camp when experiencing Pachena Bay, the West Coast Trail or taking a Kiixin Tour.
